Fanfare and Flourish for horn ensemble allows the players to portray two traditional elements of the horn - hunting calls and lyricism - in a modern setting. Written in an A-B-A form, the piece begins with an energetic horn call that is passed around the ensemble. A lyrical middle section contrasts with the boldness of the opening before returning to the original material to finish the piece. Fanfare and Flourish was written for and premiered by the University of Kansas Horn Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Paul Stevens.
